Rolling over in bed this morning I squinted at the clock to see what time it was. Disappointed that the red numbers told me it was before seven o’clock I wondered where my husband had gone. He had told me he was sleeping in today and he was nowhere to be found. Rolling back over to my right I spied Little Brown Eyes. He was eye to eye with me as he scrambled into my bed and cuddled close. Today was MOPS and I had to get up and get ready if I wanted to look presentable. On days like these I had to be all showered and ready to drop the kids off at their respective schools and go straight to my fun mom’s meeting. Yelling for husband that I needed to get up he urged me to stay in bed “because”. Peeking my interest at his reply I snuggled in deeper and grabbed both pillows. Fine then, I would stay.
After finding a comfortable spot my five year old wriggled loose to go explore in the other room. It wasn’t long before the ladies room was calling and I tiptoed out of bed and snuck into the bathroom. A few minutes later Little Brown Eyes stopped short in his tracks as he spied me out of bed. Locating me rather quickly he gave me a look and then told me I was only allowed to get out of bed to go potty but then I must get right back to where I was before. In bed. Why yes sir I thought. With that we both crawled back into bed and waited patiently. A few minutes later my husband showed up with a tray in hand (that he had just asked me about…I was kind of clued in by now) loaded down with coffee, creamer, cereal, milk, and a card that this was just the beginning of our celebration today. Feeling like a queen (well, with one child gabbing in my ear) I sat up and sipped my coffee and enjoyed my cereal all to the tune of what had happened on “Curious George”. Little Brown Eyes was my morning entertainment.
As I sat there spooning cereal into my mouth and his I told him that mama had never had breakfast in bed before. It wasn’t but a few moments later that I spied through my open bedroom door Little Z. Running around in his orange pajama’s he began to make laps through the house. Watching with amusement at his “race” I laughed under my breath as he came around for his second time. Along the way he had picked up a blue plastic Hawaiian lei. Racing past my door he was completely satisfied in his new found fun, even proud to display his find. Taking a sip of coffee I was surprised to see naked buns run past my door next. I mused that a lot could be observed if you sat up in bed each morning to watch your house wake up! Our four year old was changing upstairs and had run out of underwear so he must have been on a hunt to find more. Then Z took another lap and had acquired an extra flower necklace in green. He must have found my stash I had pulled out the other day and had not taken the time to return to its proper place. Now my party favors were a child’s play toy.
Finishing up my breakfast my oldest and most sleepy eyed wandered in for a morning hug and kiss. His kind sweet eyes making me smile from deep inside told me he was happy I was happy. That was something special about my eldest. He could communicate profoundly without the use of many words. With that daddy ushered them all off and got them dressed for school and fed a proper breakfast. I was in heaven. Glad that the day had just started and wasn’t even close to being over I finally removed myself from my bed to get ready and give my husband a much needed and deserved kiss. What a grand day it would be celebrating us. Twelve years of marriage never felt so good. Happy Anniversary.
(Actual anniversary date is Sunday, September 28th but we are celebrating it today so the kids aren’t out late before school.)
